AVALON WATERWAYS SAILS INTO 2010 WITH NEW ITINERARIES & SHIPS
Normandy, Zürich & Christmastime Markets Among River & Small Ship Cruise Company’s
New “Must-Cruise” List
Fed, in part, by a big ship traveler base and the fact that cruisers are looking for new, in-depth experiences, river cruising is the hottest travel style, according to the team at Avalon Waterways. On the heels of being recognized by Condé Nast Travelers’ 2009 Gold List, this fastest-growing small ship company is expanding its offerings to meet growing demand. In 2010, Avalon Waterways will not only christen two new ships in Europe, it will increase its vacations by nearly 20 percent, unveiling more than 30 itineraries, ranging from five to 23 days in Europe, China, Egypt and the Galápagos.
“Traveling on the waterways that weave together the history and lore of villages and countries is not only one of the fastest-growing means of travel, it’s also the most scenic and experiential way to vacation,” said Patrick Clark, managing director of Avalon Waterways. “Small ship cruising provides travelers big benefits including a more intimate experience, the proximity of attractions and hassle-free, all-inclusive style. Guests don’t have to worry about hidden fees and currency increases: Instead, they know the cost of their vacation before they depart.”
To meet increased demand, Avalon Waterways has created five NEW river cruises for 2010:
Paris to Normandy’s Landing Beaches, eight days, Paris to Paris
Grand France, 16 days, Paris to Côte d’Azur (or Côte d’Azur to Paris)
Castles on the Rhine to the City of Music, 13 days, Zürich to Vienna
A Taste of the Danube, four or five days, Vienna to Budapest (or Budapest to Vienna)
Christmastime in Germany & Austria, 12 days, Frankfurt to Vienna

OBERAMMERGAU 2010: A ONCE-IN-A-DECADE TRAVEL OPPORTUNITY
Globus & Avalon Waterways Reduces Prices on 38 Tours & Cruises Featuring the Passion Play
As the first and one of the only large tour operators to embrace faith-based vacations, having created a religious division in 2004, Globus is leading the industry in religious travel offerings. For 2010, the Globus family of brands has unveiled nearly 40 tour and river cruise itineraries featuring a journey to Oberammergau to witness a 400-year-old tradition: The Passion Play. Now, Globus is putting this unique travel opportunity within reach for even more travelers, reducing prices on Oberammergau vacations, providing an average savings of 15 percent.
“Surrounded by majestic mountains and meadows, Oberammergau sits 60 miles southwest of Munich, Germany, said Mike Schields, director of group sales and emerging markets for the Globus family of brands. “And, if its setting isn’t incentive enough to visit this picturesque village, the Passion Play – a performance portraying the Passion of Christ, from the entry into Jerusalem to the Resurrection, and an experience that only happens every 10 years – gives travelers the perfect excuse to book a European getaway in 2010.”
Featuring an excursion to Oberammergau to view the Passion Play on an open-air stage, framed by magnificent alpine scenery, Globus and Cosmos tours and Avalon Waterways river cruises range from eight to 28 days.
“While some of our travelers are interested in delving deeper into their faiths while on vacation, many others want to see and take part in the Passion Play tradition coupled with non-religious exploration,” said Schields. “Our 2010 Oberammergau itineraries offer travelers a great mix of faith-based and non-religious vacation itineraries.”
